Hi, we’re Interactive Things, a digital product design studio. As a business, we create tailor-made tools and experiences that assist, connect, and delight people. As a team of designers and developers, we strive to become the best craftspeople that we can be. We strongly believe that learning should be an integral part of our daily work. That’s why we document and reflect on our decisions and their impact. But true insights only become tangible when you share them with others for feedback, validation, and discourse. Creating a dialogue around our research and our practice with the aim to benefit others and us alike. What you’ll read here, is the result of these beliefs.

The Interactive Things studio blog is where we will share our learnings from our practical work and our thoughts about the digital product design discipline as a whole. Everyone on our team is encouraged to contribute. We write about theory, process, techniques, and tools. Exploring challenges ranging from visual perception to organizational management; from user research to test-driven development. We also might add occasional notes about life in our studio. In short, we write what we would like to read in other publications.

We love meaningful and consistent publishing. But we’re aware that it’s hard to allocate time for good writing beside our daily work. We know this because we’ve done it before here and here. We plan to write in a slow, steady pace, so we can involve our whole team, alternate between topics, and focus on the essence. This will also prevent us from adding noise to your life. We think that you’ll like it that way.

To start things off, we have prepared some of our favorite articles about our design process from real-world projects originally published on Datavisualization.ch. Albeit some of the specifics might feel dated, we believe that the principles still stand. We hope that they will be of use to anyone interested in creating data visualizations. If that’s not your cup of tea, we hope that you stay tuned for our upcoming articles.

Welcome, we’re glad to have you here.
